How to clean your Redgrass Wet Palette Foam
Table of Contents
General Care
To prevent issues and ensure longevity, it’s vital to look after your foam pad, which is naturally mold resistant.
Recommended Practice: Ideally, clean your palette and foam every time you replace the Hydration Paper or Reusable Membrane.
Minimum Care: At a minimum, rinse the palette and foam and use fresh water before setting up a new sheet of paper.
Cleaning Instructions:
Always use fresh water and a small amount of dish soap or mild detergent to clean your Redgrass Hydration foam.
- Massage and agitate the foam with your hands.
- DO NOT use a brush or scourer.
- Thoroughly rinse the foam to remove all soap.
- If not re-using immediately, lay the foam on a towel on a flat surface and allow it to air dry.
Note on drying:
It is perfectly normal for the foam to contract unevenly as it dries, making it appear “wavy” and smaller. Re-hydrating the foam (as described in the wet palette setup FAQ) will return it to its normal appearance.
Things to Avoid:
- Never dry your foam on or near a strong heat source, such as a radiator.
- Take care when handling or storing a completely dry foam, as it can become brittle.
- Don’t use abrasive cleaning tools.
- Never use paint remover, methylated spirits, or isopropyl alcohol directly on the foam pad.
Staining:
Over time, certain acrylic paint pigments may cause colored stains on your foam that cannot be completely removed with cleaning. The foam’s effectiveness will remain uncompromised, even with the presence of these stains.
The frequency with which your foam needs replacing depends on usage, but occasional replacement is recommended.
