Proper Use of Redgrass Precision Nippers:

The Redgrass Precision Nippers are a high-quality tool engineered specifically for accurately cutting PS, PP, ABS, and PE plastics. They are the ideal tool for assembling miniatures and scale models, as they minimize marks on the plastic.

    Important Usage Guidelines:

    • Do not cut thick plastic: Avoid using the nippers on plastic thicker than 3mm, as this can damage the blades.
    • Do not use the blade tips: Refrain from cutting plastic with the very tips of the blades, as this can also lead to damage.
    • Plastic only: CAUTION: The Redgrass Nippers are not designed for cutting metal, pewter, wood, or resin. Using them on these materials could cause damage or even blade breakage.

    Using Your Redgrass Sprue Cutters

Crafted from premium steel, Redgrass Sprue Cutters offer an ideal blend of durability and versatility. They are specifically designed to efficiently and cleanly remove model parts from sprues, excelling with plastics such as PS, PP, ABS, PE, and resin.

    Important Safety and Usage Guidelines:

    • Avoid Cutting Hard Materials: Do not use the Sprue Cutters on metal, pewter, or wood. Cutting these materials risks damaging the blades or causing them to break.
    • Maximum Plastic Thickness: To prevent blade damage, we strongly advise against cutting any plastic thicker than 3mm with the Redgrass Sprue Cutters.
    • Proper Blade Usage: Avoid using the very tips of the blades for general plastic cutting, as this can cause damage. The tips should only be used for delicate tasks, such as removing small burs or cleaning mould lines from your miniatures.

    Adjusting Nippers for Optimal Functioning

Your Nippers feature finely profiled, extremely sharp blades that are factory-calibrated for smooth, effortless operation.

    Addressing Blade Overlap (Sticking/Binding)

Occasionally, the blade edges may slightly overlap, causing the Nippers to temporarily stick or bind. This is easily corrected by adjusting the blades to eliminate the overlap.
    To adjust:
    Close the blades completely.
Check that the blades are not overlapping, even slightly, at the point of contact.
If overlap occurs, use a 1.5mm hex key (Allen key) to adjust the space between the closed blades until the overlap is removed.
Important: You must also avoid creating a gap between the blades, as this will prevent the Nippers from achieving a clean, flush cut. Refer to the provided diagram for detailed guidance.

    How to clean nippers?

How to Clean and Maintain Your Redgrass Nippers and Sprue Cutters

    Initial Cleaning (Oil Removal)

The blades of your Nippers and Sprue Cutters are intentionally coated with a light oil during manufacturing to protect the tool during shipping and storage. Before first use, you should wipe off this protective oil with a dry cloth to prevent any contamination of your painting process.

    Regular Maintenance

    • Cleaning: For general maintenance, simply wipe the Nippers or Sprue Cutters with a dry, lint-free cloth.
    • A Word of Caution: Do not use water to clean the tools.
    • Storage: To ensure optimal care, always keep the Nippers or Sprue Cutters dry and store them with the protective cap in place.
