REDGRASS × SQUIDMAR / LIMITED EDITION DROPS
The Squidmar Wet Palette Collaboration
Redgrass and Squidmar have an ongoing partnership to release limited-edition wet palettes built on the Redgrass Everlasting hydration system. Each drop is a unique design from Squidmar with the same proven patented membrane and foam technology underneath.
The current drop is the Orc Workshop edition, designed by Squidmar and available directly through his channels. Follow Squidmar on YouTube and Instagram to stay up to date with new drops and painting content.
Every Squidmar edition uses the Everlasting Wet Palette system
Each Squidmar drop is built on the Redgrass Everlasting V2 platform, with the patented reusable membrane and hydration foam at its core. Owners of any Squidmar edition use the same setup process, the same refills, and the same membrane care routine as the standard V2.
How to set up your Squidmar wet palette
Unpacking the Package: Begin by opening your package and locating the hydration foam pad. If you have extra foam pads, store them away for future use.
Preparing the Hydration Foam Pad: Initially, the foam pad might be somewhat dry, affecting its size. However, it will return to its original shape as you proceed through steps 2 to 4. You can skip those steps if your foam pad is constantly in use.
Setting Up the Palette: Place the foam pad inside the wet palette. Add water until the foam is fully saturated but not submerged. The correct water level is crucial for maintaining the consistency of your paint. Check our recommendations below.
Adjusting Water Levels: As you gain experience, you can adjust the amount of water to suit your painting style and needs, ensuring that your paint remains consistent for as long as possible.
Reusable Membrane: Every Squidmar edition features a groundbreaking, patented membrane that is reusable and cleanable. Learn how to use and clean it so you can reuse it 4 times, and even more with care.
Step 1
You will need one hydration foam pad. Initially, your foam pad may be more or less dry which may alter the size.
Step 2
Immerse your foam pad in water. If the foam pad is dry, it may take a couple of minutes to absorb water properly. Once your foam pad is completely wet, you can stop immersing it in water.
Step 3
Squeeze out all the water.
Steps 2 and 3 are useful only when the foam pad is completely dry and stiff.
Step 4
Place the foam pad in the wet palette case. Add water until the hydration foam is saturated around 150 ml / 5 Oz
Step 5
Wait until the foam pad is evenly moistened. Ensure that the water level inside the wet palette case is not higher than the top of the foam pad; if you have too much water it will flood the surface of the membrane when you apply it.
Step 6
Unlike the hydration papers, RGG membranes are one-sided. The blank side should face up. The printed side is the back side.
Step 7
Apply your hydration membrane. Make sure the paper lines up with the foam pad. Ensure that you place the membrane the correct way up.
Step 8
If necessary, smooth out the membrane with the side of your hand to remove any curling or bubbling. For best results, the surface should always be 100% in contact with the moistened foam pad beneath.
Step 9
Start painting!
Tips
Reusable and cleanable hydration membrane
Our patented reusable membrane is specifically designed for miniature painting.
This innovative membrane not only enhances your painting experience by ensuring consistent paint quality but also contributes to environmental sustainability by reducing waste.
- Smooth Application: The membrane features a specially treated surface that allows paint to glide on smoothly, ideal for washes, inks, and metallic paints.
- Enhanced Paint Control: Thanks to its controlled capillary action, the membrane stabilizes paint moisture, allowing you to maintain the desired consistency or dilution of your paint. The paint’s stability is preserved for longer durations.
- Reusable and Eco-Friendly: Unlike traditional paper sheets used in wet palettes that are single-use and disposable, our Redgrass reusable membrane can be cleaned and used multiple times. Although it may gradually stain over cleaning cycles, this is purely cosmetic and does not affect performance.
How to clean and reuse your membrane
Step 1
Remove or use any excess paint from the membrane surface before cleaning.
Step 2
For cleaning away the old paint adhering to the membrane, use an old large soft brush, damp paper towel, or your fingers to avoid damaging the membrane surface.
Step 3
In a sink or in a bowl full of lukewarm water, clean off any remaining paint. Use gentle, circular motions to remove the old paint. Do not scratch at the paint as this can damage the membrane surface.
Step 4
If the paint is not fully dried on or cured, it should come off easily in water. Do not use strong cleaning chemicals or abrasive tools to remove old paint.
Step 5
Once the hydration membrane is clean…
Step 6
…let it dry completely! Preferably let it dry out on a flat surface.
Step 7
Your membrane is ready to be used again! You can reuse it at least 3 to 6 times depending on the paint you have used. With care, you can use it more- it is entirely up to you!
Reusable membrane FAQ
How do I clean the reusable membrane?
- Cleaning the reusable membrane from Redgrass is simple. Old paints that are not fully dried can be removed in water with a soft brush or your fingers. Please see the section ‘How To Clean Your Reusable Membrane’ for more information. Do not use harmful chemicals or abrasive cleaners to clean your reusable membranes.
How many times can I reuse the membrane?
Your mileage may vary! With careful use and cleaning, each reusable membrane can be reused many more times than the recommended minimum guideline. It is entirely up to you!
My membrane is stained, is that normal?
- Yes. Staining is totally normal, and a purely cosmetic process that will not affect performance of the membrane. Certain paints may be more prone to staining than others, especially with highly pigmented ones.
Is the Redgrassgames Reusable Membrane recyclable?
- Once you are ready to dispose of your current membrane and start a fresh one, you can dispose of the older membrane as you would do any other paper & card materials, in line with your local legislation on recycling.
Who is Squidmar?
How it all started…
When I was 12 years old, my friends told me about this game called Warhammer. From the second I saw it; I was hooked and began painting miniatures like my life depended on it. They weren’t the best-looking paintjobs, but I had so much fun doing it, it didn’t matter.
It’s been 20 years since 12-year-old Emil walked into Fantasia to play Warhammer for the first time. Despite a 16-year hiatus, I’ve come back to painting with just as much love and passion for it as I had when I was young.
Times have changed since then and as we’ve now got access to new tools and resources; painting is now infinitely more approachable but just as fun as it’s always been.
My goal with my channel is to share my knowledge and enjoyment of the hobby and this collaboration with Redgrass makes that even more achievable. Now you can use the same tools as I do in my videos, learn the techniques and soon you’ll be a better painter than me and I can’t wait to see that happen!
