I had the initial version of this product, and it changed the way I painted. I upgraded to the V2 this year, and WOW what a difference! The seal is better, the sponge is improved, everything about this is fantastic!
The XL model allows you enough room to finish multiple models w/o having to change the paper.
Wonderful product and my primary-use palette. The seals work amazingly well, especially in the super humid climate in which I live. I’ve had issues with other palettes either drying out too quickly or becoming waterlogged, but the Studio XL v2 hits that perfect balance—it keeps paints fresh for days (and sometimes weeks) without any funky odors or excess moisture build-up. That’s a game-changer for anyone who doesn’t finish a project in one sitting.
The amount of working space is fantastic. There’s plenty of room to blend and organize my paints the way I like, which is critical when working on more complex miniatures or testing subtle transitions in color. The palette feels solid and high-quality, with a well-designed lid that snaps on securely without being a hassle to remove. The updated hydration system with the reusable membrane and redesigned foam has worked flawlessly for me so far. No curling, no bubbling—just a smooth, even surface that holds paint without dilution or separation.
My first experience of a wet pallete. Now I get it. Not going back except perhaps for buying another one of these when this one finally breaks.
Wholeheartedly recommended.
The Studio XL v2 Wet Palette from Redgrass Games has completely transformed my miniature painting sessions. The generous working area is perfect for ambitious projects—I never feel cramped. I love how the moisture control keeps my paints workable for days, which means less waste and more time spent actually painting. The reusable membrane feels practical and high quality, and opening the airtight lid to find my mixes still fresh is such a relief. It’s simple to set up, sturdy, and makes painting so much more enjoyable. I honestly can’t imagine going back—this is a genuine five-star upgrade for my hobby.
The short version: Great wet palette, even in very dry climates – but consider the size carefully
Longer version: Overall, this is an excellent product. It holds humidity incredibly well—even in my very dry climate—thanks to the high-quality hydration foam. The foam hasn’t developed any smells or started breaking down even after many uses, which speaks to its durability.
I got the XL version thinking the extra space would be a bonus, and while it definitely offers a large working area, it might be more than I really need. It takes up a lot of desk space, so if you’re tight on room, the standard size might be a better fit.
The reusable membranes are good and work well most of the time. That said, on especially dry days, I sometimes swap them for parchment paper since it’s thinner and allows more moisture to come through. That’s likely just a climate thing, though—your mileage may vary depending on where you live.
All in all, a great investment if you’re serious about your hobby.
