How to prepare and clean your RGG Mounting Putty

Preparing your putty for use (orange or grey type) #

  • Cut the piece of putty in half and work it with your fingers until soft and tacky.
  • Press this lump of putty onto the cap.
  • Place cap onto the Holder and turn it upside down.
  • On clean surface, apply gentle downward pressure whilst rotating the Holder in circular motion.
  • Do this a few times until the putty spreads out to fill the cap and you have a gently sloping even dome shape of putty.
  • This is the optimum form for adhering your miniature to and will ensure that it is held in a level position with maximum grip.

Cleaning your putty #

It is not recommended that any solvent or soap is used to try to clean the putty. The following steps usually help restore the putty to a useable state, however, it should be noted that it is a consumable product which may need to be replaced from time to time.

  • Peel the putty from the Cap or Caps – Combining the putty into one piece can save time and make it easier to manipulate.
  • Work the putty in your hands, rolling and folding it for around a minute or two until it regains a uniform color and becomes tacky again.
  • Cut or pull into equal size pieces if required and then follow the “Preparing for use steps”.

Removing putty from a miniature #

Sometimes traces of putty can adhere to the base of your miniature, especially if it has been attached to a Cap for a long while. The easiest way to remove this residue is to use a clean piece of putty and dab or roll it over any bits remaining on your mini. After a few minutes of work you should find all the residue has been pulled away, without removing any paint.
