Proper use: Nippers #
How to use your Redgrass Nippers? The Precision Nippers are a high-quality tool, specifically designed for cutting plastics such as PS, PP, ABS, and PE with utmost precision. They leave no or very few marks on the plastic, making them the ideal tool for assembling miniatures and scale models.
CAUTION: Refrain from using the Redgrass Nippers for cutting metal, pewter, wood or resin, as these materials can potentially lead to damage or even blade breakage.
We strongly advise against using the Regrass Precision Nippers to cut plastic thicker than 3mm. Exceeding this limit can damage the blades.
Additionally, it is not recommended to use the very tips of the blades for cutting plastic, as this can also cause damage. Instead, use the tips only for delicate tasks such as removing small burs or mould lines from your miniatures.

Adjusting the Nippers for correct functioning #
The blades of the Nippers are finely profiled and extremely sharp. They are calibrated at the factory for effortless opening and closing.
On very rare occasions, the blade edges can slightly overlap, causing them to temporarily stick or bind together. This can be easily rectified by adjusting the blades to prevent overlapping.
Start by closing the blades together. Ensure they are not overlapping, even slightly, at the point of contact. If they do overlap, adjust the space between the blades using a 1.5mm hex key or Allen key while keeping them closed.
You should also aim to avoid creating a gap between the blades, as this can hinder the Nippers from making clean, flush cuts. Refer to the provided diagram for detailed instructions.
How to clean your Redgrass Nippers and Sprue Cutters – oil on the blades #
The blade of the Nippers and Sprue Cutters are lightly coated with oil at the end of the manufacturing process to maintain the tool’s prime condition during shipping and storage. To avoid any contamination in your painting process, you can wipe off this oil before use.
For regular maintenance, the Nippers and Sprue Cutters can be cleaned with a dry, lint-free cloth. We advise against using water to clean either tool.
You should always strive to keep the Nippers or Sprue Cutters dry. For optimal care, we recommend storing your Nippers or Sprue Cutters with the protective cap on.
