Step by step instructions on how to setup a wet palette: #
- The foam must be damp but not saturated before setting up a wet palette. The best method is to hold it under running tap water until saturated and then wring it out. If your foam is very dry (feels rigid, does not flex) you must submerge it in cold clean water for at least 5 minutes before continuing with setup.
- Lay the damp foam in your wet palette tray
- Pour cold water (tap water is fine for most countries where it is safe to drink, otherwise you should use distilled water) slowly and evenly on to the foam. The recommended starting volumes are: Painter (Orange and Lite series) 70ml, Painter v2 107ml , Studio XL and Studio XL v2 150ml. These volumes are approximate and you may need to use more or less depending upon your environment, how damp the foam was and what your preferred painting style is.
- Select either a single sheet of Hydration Paper or a Reusable Membrane of the appropriate size and lay it gently on top of the damp foam.
- Allow it to settle for 30-60 seconds. During this time the edges may curl up, there is no need to try and flatten them down as this will happen naturally as the paper absorbs water
- Sometimes it may be necessary to smooth out some ridges in the paper or membranes. This can be done with your fingers or the edge of a ruler or plastic card.
- Add small amounts of paint as required.
- Dilution of the paint is at your discretion and depends upon the paint brand and what method you are employing.
